Week 8 – Government Structures and Grassroots Organisations

We take a look at the various Government Divisions and the roles they have in supporting the Community Sector. This includes both Federal, State and Local Government responsibilities. The state and territory governments are the main regulators for community services, although the federal government has increased its role in areas such as aged care, disability and children’s services. Local councils are responsible for community facilities such as libraries, parks, local roads, rubbish, town planning  and development approvals. Some councils have extended their services to include aged care, youth, child care, community health centres and other services based on local need. 

That some work is outsourced to Grassroots organisations as they have a better understanding of that industrys needs and limits the bureaucratic tape to act more effectively on various issues.
