Week 5 – History of Welfare in Australia, Poors Law & Essay Writing

This week we looked at the history of Welfare in Australia, the policies, The English Poor Laws, Work Houses and the idea’s surrounding the deserving and undeserving poor. The English Poor Laws were a system of welfare that developed out of the 16th century and existed until the emergence of the ‘welfare state’ after World War II. How Changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution led to the development of towns, rapid population growth and increasing poor. As well as the effects these laws had in Australia on the First natiosn People and Immigration. We looked at the modern equivolent to these laws, welfares and benefits.

In Academic Foundations we explored the concepts used for the writing and structure of an essay and it’s place and puprose in academic writing.
